Little about me!
Fractal- Hi I'm Steve and this is Fractal this is the website for Music / Beets produce and music we make. Drummer by trade. Been drumming for over 15 years playing, and 6 years set and percussion instruction. I took drum lessons early in grade school, in college I took 4 semesters of Marching Snare, & Drum set, & percussion instruction. Later I always had an interest in sound and Foley, (sound effects in film) how sound effects were made. That's when when I found out they used synthesizers to make some effects. Early on I learned they used them in Movies cartoons and other films, I loved growing up, I was hooked. I had to learn everything about these machines. The sounds, The awesome sounds they make. I had to find out who made them and who played, and programmed them. I learned about artists and makers From Raymond Scott, Bob Moog, Klaus Schultz, Rick Wright, to Richard D James, and more. I ended up learning so much about synthesizers & midi, and who played and Programmed / made them. When I took exams for my recording degree. The professor in the midi & tech class had to change the Questions on the tests I took, giving so much information. He didn't know about Dave smith, and the committee to make midi jacks (universal). Making them the same on all synths from then on. These songs I wrote, These songs were part of my obsession with keyboards, synths, and computer synths, and what I had lerned about them. These recordings were my experiments in electronic sounds. Enjoy!
Fractal- Experiments in Electronic Sounds
The recordings on this album were some of the earliest recordings of electronic music I made. These tracks were recorded 2000-2015. Most of these songs were recorded with electronic instruments, I had, along with some samples I made, with circuit bent instruments, toys, and noise makers, added for effects. Some of these songs were the first time I recorded electronic music on a computer. The later songs on this album, I started using the computer more, and started learning software DAW's with Emagic Logic, and Reason. The synthesizers, were more computer based, and I used computers to write and record the songs. The early Chode songs on here were all edited onto a multi track tape recorder with 3 tracks & 4th to bounce down to on a cassette. I would then take a few mixed down tracks, and record it to a “master / mixing” deck a Radio shack single recording deck. Some times lots of tape warble was uncontrollable on the recordings. The synths in some of the Chode project, I expanded to use Roland Midi PCM sound module, as well as samples reedited on the computer. This is when I started to use computer programs like cool edit (adobe audition) and early versions logic pro, and Propellerhead Reason DAW'S. These songs and ideas of what I was learning, propelled me into learning more about recording synths drums, sampling and got me into live sound and mastering. These songs were my first official experiments in electronic sounds.

Fractals Beats, Music, and The electronic Music of Fractalstudios
After making some songs and experimenting, I started lerning how to make songs in reason for fun and then had to make actual songs for MIDI Production classes for my recording degree. I listen to a lot of pioneering electronic music from Raymond Scott to Stockhausen, then Derbyshire to Square pusher, NIN, Aphextwin.... So I started listening to how electronic music sounded in the 90's & 2000's. I would listen to it at the clubs, on radio, and on mix tapes I got. I noticed that a lot of songs had the same drum beat. Sometimes bands had the same beat threw out the whole of an album, or set. It was very annoying to me, especially because I had been playing and Learning drums and Percussion. Electronic drums on lots of commercial stuff back then was quite a bit repetitive, SO much so, I thought I would change it up and keep it interesting. I understood why it might sound great in the club, but when hearing the same beat for most of the night got old really fast.So I and fractalstudios vowed to never make the drums on our Beats songs sound that boring. I will change up the beat occasionally, or mix the drums in an exiting way. This is why I started making my own beats, sounds, and sound samples. I have drum samples, and synth samples and collected so many, I am giving some away for free. These samples I made from original sounds I made, and have re-sampled. Are up on my circuit bent page for the Electron Model Samples drum machine, or reason and any drum sampler. We have 16 bit on our dropbox site as well. I'm always writing and learning new stuff, and recording music. Check out Fractal on all streaming platforms!
